Taking Steps

A farce by Alan Ayckbourn

The Ayckbourn comedy has been part of English theatre for the last thirty years and it was his recent elevation to the knighthood which prompted me to revisit his prolific and popular work. "Taking Steps" is his only true farce and the combination of the clever dialogue and the farcical situation in a uniquely imaginative setting sets a challenge not only to the Director, cast and crew but also to the audience. This sets it apart from his other work and I hope you will take away the sense of having seen a production memorable for its "differentness".                                 (A note from the Director, Peter Ayre, extracted from the programme)

"Taking Steps" is about self-made hardware magnate Roland who is attempting to buy the home of his dreams. Unfortunately, his plans are upset by his flghty wife, an incompetent solicitor and a devious builder who all do their best to disrupt proceedings.
