Introduction to St Nics website from the author Hello, and a very warm welcome to St Nicolas Players. As a relative newbie of a mere 3 years or so involvement with St Nics, I was nevertheless aware they have been going since the early sixties and have staged many excellent productions, with titles as diverse as Robert Harling’s “Steel Magnolias”, Paul Allen’s “Brassed Off” and Mike Harding’s “Fur Coat and No Knickers” to name but a few. But it wasn’t until I began to research and compile the information I needed for this website that I really began to gain a true idea of the history and accomplishments of St Nics. Over the years they have acquired a terrific and well deserved reputation for consistently producing high quality productions year in and year out. Often technically challenging, often difficult and sensitive subjects, each show the society stages is always presented to the very highest standards of integrity and talent that can be mustered, both on stage and off. This is surely borne out by the many awards that have been won by the society, both as a whole and on an individual basis. There is no doubt in my mind that much of this success is due to St Nics’ long standing policy of open auditions, where new would-be actors are encouraged to come forward and try out for parts in upcoming productions. Hopefully this ensures, as much as possible, that St Nics continues to grow, gain fresh new perspectives, and a steady influx of talent and skill - both on stage and off - all the ingredients required for a successful amateur dramatics society . I hope I haven’t sounded too stuffy or pompous here, that’s surely the last thing I want because I promise you, St Nics is about as far from that as is possible. But if I have come across as being just a tad proud of being a part of this group and what they do, then I can only say – guilty as charged! Please have a look around the website and hopefully get a feel for who and what St Nicolas Players is, and what we are about. Troy Melvin |
